Born and raised in rural Indiana, Steven enjoyed lakeside living, bicycling, tennis and playing trombone in his school band.  But Steve went from small-town boy to globe-trotter when he enlisted in the United States Army.  Stationed all over the world for 12 years, he proudly served his country as an intelligence analyst.  Discharged in 1999, Steve opted for the sunny West Coast, where he worked as a civilian contractor for the Navy Marine Corps’ Network Operations Center at North Island Naval Air Station.  In 2002 Steve also joined Advanced Aquatics, Inc., which he co-owns and manages still today.

Steve eventually settled in Escondido because of its “pockets” of rural atmosphere.  He met Faye Hines and it didn’t take long before the two forged a close bond.  Faye inspired Steve to obtain his real estate license, and when the accomplished this in 2014 he joined The Hines Team!  He has since become a Certified Relocation Specialist and First Time Buyer Specialist.  Steve has a passion for working with active duty military personnel and veterans.  He describes himself as “honest, communicative and organized,” and derives great joy form helping people achieve their goal of home ownership.

In his spare time Steve enjoys the beach, sight-seeing and visiting historic landmarks.  Steve’s greatest source of pride is his three grown children; a son who served with the US Air Force in Afghanistan, another son who twice deployed to Iraq while serving in the US Marine Corps, and a daughter who is currently studying to ear her Master’s Degree in psychology.

“Steve’s time in the military gave him the gift of travel as well as the opportunity to connect with others in a very tangible way.  Solving problems and talking through details with his clients is his strength, and we’re delighted that he has joined us at our new Escondido location,” says Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

Born in Los Angeles, Amy’s family relocated to Escondido when she was 9 years old.  Years later, marriage, children and a thriving business with her husband kept Amy very busy.  But seeing great potential in her, family friend Faye Hines encouraged Amy to pursue a real estate career.  In 1998 Amy earned her license and joined the Hines Team.  In the years that followed she not only had helped buyers find property, Amy has also purchased several investment properties of her own.

Though her children are now grown Amy continues to stay busy, working in multiple aspects of business.  She loves the whole real estate purchasing process and derives great satisfaction in getting to know buyers, learning their needs and desires, and ultimately finding them a home they truly love.  Applying what she has learned through her own investing, along with the knowledge she has gained through the Hines Team, Amy is able to skillfully guide her clients through the real estate purchase process.

In her spare time Amy enjoys time with her family, which includes her husband, their four children and four grandchildren.  She loves hiking and just enjoying the great outdoors…usually with her faithful canine companion, Rex the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

“Having so much experience through her own transactions has given Amy the ability to make her clients’ deals that much smoother.  She hears the unsaid, and that’s a talent most appreciated in this industry.  We are truly lucky she chose to join us at our new Escondido office,” says Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

Born in the Los Angeles area, Apryl spent her growing years living alternately between the Midwest and the West Coast.  She returned to her native California in 1993, and made Escondido her permanent home.  As an RDA she enjoyed a successful career in the dental field, but when Apryl and her husband purchased their first home in 2002 she became intrigued with the real estate industry.  It wasn’t until 2008, during one of the most severe economic crisis in US history, that April made the bold transition to real estate sales.  Good fortune smiled on Apryl when she was assigned a mentor:  Faye Hines.  By 2011, impressed with Apryl’s abilities, Faye invited her to join the Hines Team.

Apryl truly enjoys the team dynamic and appreciates the value of multiple individuals, with differing talents, working together toward a common goal.  But beyond that she views the Hines Team as extended family members.  Apryl enjoys working with buyers and sellers, but says her favorite task is handing first-time buyers the keys to their new home.

When she’s not working Apryl and her family enjoy camping and boating at Lake Havasu during the spring and summer, and desert recreation like driving their dune buggy at Glamis during the winter months.  Apryl also enjoys quilting and sewing, and spending quality time gardening with her daughter, a college student who aspires to become a florist.

“Apryl has roots here in Escondido, making her a great resource.  Clients and agents alike know she’s a local expert, and we’re extremely happy to have her join our new Escondido office,” says Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

A native of San Diego County, Team Leader Faye Hines began her real estate career after college by working in the title insurance and escrow industry in Los Angeles County  She transitioned to selling real estate in 1976 at a small firm in Escondido.  Only three years later, Faye and her business partner opened ERA Property Movers, Inc., which they owned and operated for 22 years.  Under that partnership’s leadership the agency became one of the most successful in North San Diego County.  Today, after more than 40 years in the industry, Faye is a highly respected mainstay in San Diego real estate.  She has consistently been the recipient of numerous leadership, sales, and excellence awards.  Faye is known for her fast knowledge and exceptional client relationships that last long after the transaction is complete, qualities which she has instilled into every member of The Hines Team.

Outside of real estate, Faye loves to travel and serve.  She combines these two passions through annual mission trips to the Central Plateau region of Haiti where she works to empower and improve the lives of the Haitian people.  Faye is extremely close with her two children, their spouses, and the six grandchildren, who often travel to California to spend time with their energetic, fun-loving “Grandy”.  It doesn’t take long to recognize Faye’s warmth and wisdom, which is why so many of her clients become lifelong friends, returning time and time again to the Hines Team for all their real estate needs.

“I am personally thrilled to have Faye and her team join our company this year!” exclaims Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates. “As we grow and expand each year, it gives me great pride to have a team like Faye’s join us. With their outstanding reputation in the Escondido market, it is a huge compliment to have her decide to join us here at Windermere.”

Chris was born and raised in Hackettstown, New Jersey.  A small town in the northwest rolling hills, but well known as the home of your favorite candy maker, M&M Mars!  He grew up in a family of six to include his parents, Carol and Neil; his two older brothers, Bob & Tim, and his younger sister, Laurie.

After high school, Chris followed in his brother’s footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps.  Having served 30 years all over the world to include several combat deployments, his primary job was a Radio Technician.  After approximately 14 years, Chris moved to middle level management and then for his final 9 years moved on to executive level management.  Reaching the pinnacle of his career and being promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major, Chris was the enlisted advisor to the Commanding Officer of several units.  He was responsible for the morale, discipline, pay, welfare, administration, and professional military education of all enlisted Marines in the unit. He also served as a mentor to junior officers and senior staff non-commissioned officers.

Besides taking great pride in being a Marine, Music has been his life’s passion and Chris has been playing the drums since the age of 10.  To this day, he can be found in the local club scene playing in about 5 different bands.  His local tour schedule can be found at www.chrisslattery.com.

Chris’ final tour in the Corps landed him back in Southern California, a location he has been stationed at several times.  He loves the atmosphere and chose Temecula as his retirement home to share with my teenage daughters, Payton & Sabre.

Having purchased his first house through a Windermere agent, Ryan Street, also a fellow Marine with whom Chris has had the pleasure of serving, it was then that he decided he wanted to provide the same level of professionalism and service to others that are looking for an easy experience with such a monumental milestone.

With his background in management and retaining the Marine Corps core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, coupled with a strong sense of integrity, Chris believes the foundation has been laid to put Southern California’s buying and selling population first & foremost in their real estate needs.

Arlene has lived in San Diego for most of her adult life and chose it because of the wonderful weather, lifestyle, and being drawn to the ocean.  She loves being outside, walking on the beach, hiking and enjoying our wonderful San Diego amenities.

Family is her number one priority and Arlene loves spending time with her two sons and their families, and making memories with them.

Arlene considers herself fortunate to have a career that she loves.  Since beginning her real estate career in the early 1990’s she has worked hard to excel in the real estate industry, and has been a consistent top sales producer representing both Buyers and Sellers throughout San Diego.  She has learned that the real estate business is built by developing relationships, being able to negotiate skillfully, and by having exceptional market knowledge.

She also takes pride in the fact that a large source of her clientele has been a result of personal referrals and repeat clients.  All of her clients can expect to receive the same outstanding service, regardless of the price of their home.

The process of buying or selling a home should be a positive and comfortable experience.  Arlene provides her clients with extensive expertise and knowledge and represents them skillfully and professionally throughout the process of purchasing and/or selling their homes.  Working with great people is a gift Arlene never takes for granted and sees it as a joy and pleasure to serve them.

“Arlene’s enthusiasm for real estate shows.  The amount of her repeat clients is evidence of this, and we’re delighted that she has chosen to work with us in our Del Mar branch,” says Brian Gooding, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

Windermere Homes & Estates is proud to announce its newest member of the team, Jovani Ruiz. As a native North County resident, Jovani grew up in Escondido and Valley Center. After attending Valley Center HS, Jovani went on to San Diego State University where he graduated with his Bachelors of Arts in International Business.

Jovani has an emphasis on marketing and Spanish speaking markets, he wanted to work abroad in Mexico, or another Latin American country for a multi-national company. At the time of his graduation in 2009 the economy was in shambles and Jovani saw an opportunity in Real Estate at a time when most agents were getting out of the business.

As a current Escondido resident Jovani bought a duplex as his first home, utilizing his investment as a future rental income property. Jovani has even invested in a small 2 unit commercial building where his wife runs her hair salon.

“What inspired me to get into the business was a desire to learn about Real Estate as an investment vehicle. I wanted to be able to help my family, friends, and clients build stability and wealth through Real Estate. I chose Windermere Homes & Estates because the company has been developed and geared toward growth. The tools and resources are in place to continue to grow my business and provide a better, higher quality service to my clients.”

Working out of the Escondido office, Jovani is able to work in the city where he lives and thrives in business. Jovani is part of the young professionals network (YPN) at NSDCAR. Local realtors now know Jovani as a resource for social media marketing and his involvement in the local Escondido broker caravan.

“I help a lot clients buy and sell Real Estate in Escondido and beyond. I think my associate Jose Aquino and I can provide a great service to our local communities and be a resource to first time home buyers, home owners looking to move, and the Hispanic members of our community as well. We are both fluent in Spanish and are diligent Real Estate professionals that will look out for our client’s best interests. We love helping our clients achieve their home ownership goals, and we partner up with great lenders that provide various loan programs that make home ownership a reality for young families.”

“Jovani’s love for Escondido, paired with his knowledge of Real Estate, make him a good fit for our new location in Escondido.  We’re proud to have him on our team,” says Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

As one of Windermere’s newest agents, Jose Aquino has recently joined Windermere Homes & Estates Escondido branch, along side his friend and colleague, Jovani Ruiz. Growing up as a local Southern California resident, Jose is no stranger to the San Diego area, as he has had the distinct pleasure of growing up in Encinitas, where the beach is your backyard.

Jose spent his earlier years enjoying fun in the sun, playing soccer with friends while frequenting the local beaches after school. From his honest and professional work ethic to his unwavering dedication to his craft, Jose is now able to help neighbors, friends and family with all of their real estate needs. While working with a wide array of clients, Jose and Jovani teamed up and joined Windermere Homes & Estates so that they may sharpen their skills and utilize some of the many tools that Windermere has to offer its agents.

As a native Southern Californian, Nikki grew up in Los Angeles and lived in the same home until going off to college in the Bay Area. At UC Berkeley, Nikki received her BA in Economics, which quickly lead to a prosperous career in finance and operations. Although Nikki’s career flourished, she decided to combine her organizational skills with her love of Real Estate and begin a new adventure.

Nikki’s love of real estate began in high school when she would peruse the LA Times for her dream home. As this continued into adulthood, Nikki frequently attended open houses in her neighborhood while out for walks with her dog. Nikki decided to turn her hobby into a new career and began the process of getting licensed. As a new agent, she is excited to share her passion for real estate and her love of San Diego with her clients. As a recent home buyer, she knows how difficult home buying and selling can be and is looking forward to making the process as smooth as possible for her clients.

Aside from real estate, Nikki has several passions. She spends most of her free time training for obstacle course races such as Spartan Race, Epic Race, and Warrior Dash. Most of her training involves attending the climbing gym, weight lifting, hiking, and the occasional run. Nikki is also a certified in wine and spirits tasting through the WSET and enjoys a nice glass of rosé after a workout.

“Nikki’s experience in Economics gives her an edge in today’s market.  Her analytical skills and determination add so much to our team, and we’re delighted she chose to work with us,” says Rich Johnson, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.

Mark Donar Joins Windermere CarlsbadOriginally from the Midwest, Mark Donar enjoyed growing up in the Chicago suburb of Westmont, Illinois. After attending and graduating from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mark started his quest to serve our nation as a United States Marine.  Within his 22 years of service, Mark experienced several relocations, providing the opportunity to purchase five homes. During this time, Mark enjoyed “the hunt” for the next perfect home and taking on significant home improvement projects as he transitioned from one home to the next.  After being assigned to Camp Pendleton, Mark found himself enjoying the beauty Southern California has to offer, from the surf of Oceanside to the sunny beaches running down the coast.

While the Marine Corps had moved Mark and his family several times, he always found his way back to Southern California.  As Mark’s career as a Marine came to a close, he decided to plant his flag firmly in the Oceanside area, enjoying both the lifestyle and a community they now call home.

The direct result of five home purchases and eight moves within Mark’s career finally brought him into the Real Estate field.  This experience has taught Mark about the different aspects of the Real Estate market with each purchase and sale.  With his personal experience, Mark is now able to assist home buyers and sellers during their transitions, helping them to find their first, or next, perfect home. Applying his character, integrity, and negotiating skills that he has honed over his career culminating as a Lieutenant Colonel, Mark is able to ensure that his clients wants and needs are met, all the while leading them through the process from start to finish.

“Mark’s travels have given him an important perspective.  Seeing the process from both sides so many times enables him to educate his clients about the process, and we’re delighted to have Mark on our Carlsbad team,” says Brian Gooding, co-owner of Windermere Homes & Estates.
